Editorial policy

Our pages exist to give Florida homeowners accurate, checkable facts about roof costs, roof age and the rules that apply to them. These are the rules we write by.

By the ReRoof Report editorial team · Last reviewed · 5 sources

Primary sources first

  • Every number on a page comes from a source we can link: a statute, a building code document, an insurer or regulator publication, a public permit record, or a published study.
  • For law, we link the statute text itself, not a summary of it. For building departments, we link the county or city page or fee schedule, with its date.
  • Figures we calculated or estimated are labeled as estimates. Figures we could confirm only from a secondary source or a search snippet are labeled unverified.
  • Each page lists its sources at the bottom with the date we last reviewed it.
  • We don't present bills that did not pass as law, and we don't repeat claims that primary sources contradict.

How the tools and cost model work is documented on our methodology page.

Review cadence and triggers

Every page shows a "Last reviewed" date. Pages with legal or fee facts are re-checked when any of these happens:

  • The 9th edition Florida Building Code takes effect on December 31, 2026 (we re-check the 25% rule section numbers).
  • The 2027 Florida legislative session ends.
  • Citizens Property Insurance issues a new roof or inspection bulletin.
  • The wind-mitigation form OIR-B1-1802 or its rule changes.
  • A building department changes its permit fee schedule, which many are doing under HB 803 from July 1, 2026. Fees on our pages carry their schedule date and a note to confirm with the building department.

Corrections

If you find an error, email hello@reroofreport.com with the page address and, if you can, a source. We check the claim against the primary source. If we got it wrong, we fix the page and update its review date. Corrections that change a number, a rule or a tool result are noted on the page.

How we use AI

We use AI writing tools to help draft pages and to organize research. A person on our editorial team reviews every page before it is published: checking each figure and legal statement against the cited source, removing anything unsupported, and editing for clarity. AI tools don't publish anything on their own, and they are not the source of any fact on this site.

Advertising and editorial are separate

  • We currently run no advertising (see the advertising disclosure). If that changes, it will not decide what we write.
  • No roofing company, manufacturer or insurer can pay for coverage, review a page before publication, or change a tool's results.
  • Tool verdicts come from fixed rules documented on the methodology page.
  • We don't write sales copy into articles.

Insurance content is educational

We explain what Florida statutes and Citizens rules say and what typically happens. We don't interpret anyone's policy, advise on a claim, or urge anyone to make one; in Florida that work belongs to licensed public adjusters and attorneys. Where it's relevant we suggest readers consider contacting their insurer to find out whether a repair is covered, and we note that policy terms control.

No reviews, testimonials or invented people

  • We don't publish customer reviews, testimonials or ratings of roofing companies.
  • Bylines are "ReRoof Report editorial team." We don't invent author names or credentials.
  • We don't show people presented as roofers or customers.
